High-arched feet affect approximately 10%–15% of the general population. Although the relationship between plantar pressure and bilateral symmetry is well studied, there is limited evidence regarding the use of Symmetry Index and pressure platforms. The objective of the study is to compare dynamic foot pressures and Symmetry Index during gait between subjects with Pes Cavus and subjects with normal feet. The analysis of asymmetric pressure patterns could benefit from studies that compare dynamic foot pressures and Symmetry Index values in subjects with high-arched feet and normal feet. This analysis can promote better clinical understanding of gait alterations and help solve biomechanical problems that may lead to pathologies, as well as prevent and treat them. A descriptive case–control study was developed from October to December 2024 with 82 participants, 41 with Pes Cavus and 41 normal feet and 71 females of 25.52 ± 5.99 years through a consecutive nonrandom technique. For this study, a baropodometry platform (Neo-Plate, Herbitas) was used, which acquired dynamic gait with a 2-step protocol. The inclusion criteria regarding the selection of subjects were age 18–65 years; if both cavus feet, Navicular Drop Test (NDT) < 9 mm; neutral feet and no lower limb problem or surgery. Regarding SI use, the PC demonstrated to have large asymmetries compared to the control group. Left anterior pressure was lower (44.93% ± 4.59% vs. 48.60% ± 3.43%, p = 0.014), left posterior pressure was higher (55.07% ± 4.58% vs. 51.40% ± 3.43%, p = 0.013) and the left Initial Contact Phase (ICP) was prolonged (123.34 ± 51.75 ms vs. 91.30 ± 31.86 ms, p = 0.036); right medial pressure was higher (58.18% ± 4.08% vs. 53.77% ± 4.79%, p = 0.034). SI measurements were greater in normal foot group than in the PC group with SI 94.15% ± 5.00% versus 93.75% ± 4.59%, p = 0.001, respectively; ICP and lateral SI were both p = 0.001. Findings confirmed that subjects with cavus feet tend to present greater alterations in bilateral symmetry, specifically posteromedial pressure movements and altered gait phases, which are indicative of more probability of future injuries. For this reason, pressure platforms are excellent tools for understanding, analysing and therefore applying the correct treatment according to the SI.
The clinical practicum is a critical component of nursing education. In Spain, it is currently facing systemic challenges that compromise its quality and sustainability. A persistent nursing shortage, combined with increasing pressure on healthcare systems and a growing number of students intended to address this gap, is adding strain to clinical learning environments, which may compromise the capacity of nurses to provide adequate supervision and meaningful learning experiences for nursing students. This not only diminishes the quality of the training experiences, but also negatively affects the well-being of both students and nurses, further worsening the situation. This protocol outlines a study aimed at conducting an in-depth analysis of the current challenges affecting the clinical practicum and proposing a new model that effectively addresses them, with significant potential for adaptation and implementation across different health education fields and geographical locations.
The study will employ a sequential mixed-methods design comprising two integrated phases. In phase I, quantitative, qualitative and scoping review methodologies will be combined to identify current challenges and opportunities. Quantitative data will be obtained by administering questionnaires to nursing students and clinical mentors (CMs) tutoring them in Catalonia, examining potential barriers and facilitators to their mentoring role. Data will be analysed through descriptive and inferential statistics. Qualitative data will emerge from semistructured interviews with CMs and nurse coordinators, as well as from a visual elicitation technique, the ‘Emojional’ Calendar, conducted with students to understand their clinical practicum experiences. These will be analysed through an inductive thematic analysis approach. The scoping review, following the Arksey and O’Malley framework, will identify best practices in clinical practicums in nursing and other health studies globally. Phase II will involve a three-round qualitative Delphi study in which all preceding results will be presented to stakeholders and decision makers in order to redesign the clinical practicum model.
Ethical approval for this study was obtained from Hospital del Mar Clinical Research Ethics Committee (Ref #2023/11123). Results will be disseminated through peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations, as well as via strategic actions (forums and meetings with healthcare managers, deans and policymakers) and general outreach (talks, social media and websites) targeted at professionals, students and the public.
To explore nurse managers' perceptions at first-line, middle and executive levels regarding their transition to first-line management in two divisions of a highly specialised university hospital in Spain.
A qualitative descriptive study.
A purposive sampling technique was employed to conduct four focus groups and two semi-structured interviews with 31 nurse managers across three hierarchical levels in two divisions of a highly specialised university hospital in Spain. Participants included two Chief Nursing Officers, four Nursing Directors and 25 first-line nurse managers. Data were analysed thematically.
Three themes emerged: ‘Bridging the Readiness Gap: Training, Role Clarity, and Institutional Alignment’, revealing the lack of structured transition plans, role ambiguity and gaps in managerial skills, such as human resources, financial management and leadership; ‘Fighting Loneliness: A Common Challenge in Care Management’, highlighting the isolation of first-line nurse managers due to the absence of structured mentorship and peer support; ‘Clinical Expertise as a Cornerstone: The Role of Prior Experience in Nurse Management’, examining how clinical expertise facilitates leadership transitions but also presents challenges, particularly for managers promoted within their teams, where authority negotiation and role redefinition become critical.
Findings underscore the need for structured training and mentorship to address role ambiguity, enhance managerial competencies and support nurse managers' transitions through targeted education.
Structured transition programmes focusing on role clarity, training and institutional alignment can ease transitions, boost leadership confidence and enhance peer collaboration. Providing mentoring and training tailored to first-line nurse managers can improve team dynamics, support professional integration and strengthen organisational cohesion.
Tailored educational interventions are essential in supporting nurse managers' transitions. Structured mentorship and targeted training enhance leadership readiness, adaptability and institutional alignment, strengthening healthcare leadership, efficiency and patient care quality.

Health systems must guarantee access to quality, safe and effective medicines. Essential medicine lists (EMLs) are crucial prioritisation tools to inform coverage decisions and steward limited health resources under the context of universal healthcare. This study aims to develop a consolidated framework for prioritising the assessment of health technologies to review and update EML for treating diseases or health problems managed in primary healthcare (PHC).
A mixed-methods approach was designed to validate the framework. An initial scoping systematic review will be conducted to search for studies that describe criteria used to prioritise the assessment of health technologies for PHC. The relevant studies will be examined using the Joanna Briggs Institute methodological framework for scoping review studies. A comprehensive search was conducted in the following sources: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Virtual Health Library (LILACS, WHO IRIS, IBECS, PAHO-IRIS, PAHO, LIS, BRISA), Health System Evidence, Global Healths, Health Evidence and Epistemonikos from the inception until February 2025. Two review authors will screen and extract data independently. The extracted data will be qualitatively analysed and presented in a diagrammatic or tabular form, alongside a narrative summary, in line with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis: Extension for Scoping Reviews reporting guidelines. An iterative process online using the Delphi hybrid with stakeholders through predetermined consensus thresholds, a combination of a four-point Likert scale and open-ended questions will be conducted to select and validate the criteria identified in the scoping review.
We will provide a consolidated framework to inform decision-makers for prioritising the assessment of health technologies for the national EML for PHC. This is an important step in using evidence to inform public health policies. We plan to share findings through a variety of means, including publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at national conferences, invited workshops and webinars, email discussion lists affiliated with our institutions and professional associations, and academic social media.
Objetivo: Determinar la influencia de la sarcopenia en la funcionalidad de Adultos Mayores Mexicanos. Método: diseño correlacional-predictivo. Muestra: 316 adultos mayores que asistieron al centro de actividades artísticas y deportivas. Instrumentos: cédula de datos sociodemográficos-clínicos, SARC-F, índice de Barthel y escala de Lawton. Resultados: La sarcopenia tiene impacto negativo sobre las actividades instrumentales de la vida diaria e influye en mayor porcentaje en las básicas convirtiéndola en variable predictora explicando un 34% las actividades de la vidia diaria y un 22% las instrumentales. Conclusiones: La sarcopenia es una variable predictora para las actividades básicas e instrumentales de la vida diaria. Los resultados presentados plantean bases para futuras intervenciones multidisciplinarias para disminuir el riesgo de sarcopenia y complicaciones en quienes la padecen. Es necesario adoptar estrategias de valoración de individuos con sarcopenia o en riesgo de desarrollarla, a través de consultas en el primer nivel de atención, para prevenirla.
Objetivo principal: Determinar la relación entre ansiedad, depresión y soledad en cuidadores familiares de adultos mayores con enfermedades crónicas. Metodología: Diseño descriptivo correlacional. Se utilizó la Escala hospitalaria de ansiedad y depresión (α=.83) y la escala de Soledad (α=.95). Se hizo un cálculo de tamaño de muestra con programa G-Power 3.1.9.7 y se aplicó un muestreo a conveniencia. Se analizó con estadística descriptiva e inferencial, como Pearson y chi2. Resultados principales: Participaron 178 cuidadores familiares con una m de 45 años. Se encontró relación de la edad con la percepción de soledad (r=-.200) y el tiempo del cuidado con la puntuación de depresión (r=-.199) y ansiedad (r=-.179). Conclusión principal: Se encontró que, a mayor edad del cuidador, mayor es la percepción de soledad, y a mayor tiempo de cuidado, menor es la depresión y ansiedad, permitiendo implementar futuros programas de atención para mejorar la calidad de vida de los cuidadores.
